The Office of Research Services (ORS) puts on the Faculty Grants Academy (FGA), a series of workshops designed to help faculty understand the funding landscape and university support available for research and creative activities.
ORS and FGA can help you:
- Know what to look for when reading agency proposal guidelines
- Search for research sponsors
- Discover the projects sponsors have funded in the past
- Strategize with you about elements of proposal development, funding sustainability, contacting program officers and other topics
- Learn about important proposal tips for new investigators
- Sign up to receive automatic funding announcements based on your research interests
- Find the best fund searching databases available to CU Denver faculty
- Review funding opportunities that target new/junior investigators
You can also start a search using the university’s license for Pivot-RP. Pivot-RP is a comprehensive tool that will let faculty search for funding opportunities AND potential collaborators. Pivot will send faculty a weekly email with funding opportunities tailored to their research background if they wish, and the more detail faculty put into their Pivot profile, the better the search results will be.
Some tips are:
- At a minimum, add your CV and your ORCID to your Pivot profile. This will allow Pivot to tailor searches for you based on those two documents.
- Your profile has an area called “Keywords” that allows you to select pertinent descriptors from Pivot’s library of keywords used to tag opportunities. Selecting keywords in this section will help Pivot customize its search algorithm for you further.
- Your profile also has an area for you to provide a description of your expertise, which will help collaborators determine if you are a good fit for any potential projects.
- Once you have completed your profile, Pivot will provide a link to potential funding opportunities in your profile.
- You can use filters for a set of funding opportunities to narrow the results down to (for instance) opportunities in the US, for academic institutions, and for research or creative activities.
- Once you have set up your profile, Pivot will automatically send you a summary of opportunities on Sunday that have been added to the database in the previous week.
- You can click on an opportunity title to see details of the opportunity, but double check the solicitation itself for eligibility criteria and cost-sharing requirements.
- You can also see links to lists of potential collaborators in the opportunity, based on the information in their profiles. Please note that these lists are only as good as the information in the individual profile – but you can check those out too by clicking on the person’s name.
