Biomedical engineering

Welcome to the Department of Biomedical Engineering at CU Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus

If you're a creative thinker who is passionate about STEM, driven by curiosity, and inspired to improve lives, you might be a biomedical engineer in the making. At CU Denver’s Department of Biomedical Engineering—part of the College of Engineering, Design and Computing (CEDC) and uniquely co-located on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus—you’ll find a one-of-a-kind opportunity to study at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and innovation.

As the first comprehensive biomedical engineering program in Colorado, our students work directly with the clinicians and researchers who use the devices and therapies we develop. This hands-on environment shapes biomedical engineers who are not only technically skilled but also deeply connected to real-world healthcare needs.

The mission of the biomedical engineering department is to improve human health through the application of engineering principles, ideas, and inventions that solve critical clinical challenges. The program’s curriculum is closely aligned with the demands of the biomedical engineering industry, thanks to strong partnerships with local companies and the Colorado Bioscience Association. Through this industry-connected education, our graduates are prepared to thrive in a growing field and make a tangible impact in the world.
