Accreditation Information for the College of Engineering, Design and Computing

Our undergraduate programs in bioengineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The undergraduate program in computer science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Accreditation by ABET is a non-governmental, peer-review process that assures the quality of engineering and technology programs. Educational programs undergo this periodic review to calibrate their quality against the strictly established ABET standards. An engineering program must, on a continual basis, assess itself by collecting and analyzing the program performance data for educational quality and program accountability. Demonstration of the methods of program performance assessment, both direct and indirect, and a continual record of program improvement are critical for a successful ABET review.

Accreditation helps many people make important decisions about education, including students choosing an educational program; parents seeking assurance of a quality education; employers recruiting well-prepared graduates; and state registration, licensure and certification boards who screen applicants for entry into professional practice.

Since 1932, ABET has provided quality assurance of education through periodic accreditation. ABET currently accredits more than 2,800 programs at more than 600 colleges and universities nationwide. ABET is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
