LYNX AM Lab Logo

LYNX Additive Manufacturing (AM) Lab is located in NC1809 and managed by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at CU Denver. This student-run facility provides hands-on experience in 3D printing and digital fabrication for CU Denver students, faculty, and staff.

The AM Lab features a Print Farm with:

  • 10 Prusa MK3 printers
  • 2 Prusa XLs
  • 10 Bambu A1s
  • A Bambu P1S
  • An Elegoo OrangeStorm Giga
  • An Elegoo Saturn 4 SLA printer

We can 3D print multi-material and multi-color polymer parts with a size up to 800mm x 800mm x 1000mm. The lab also has a metal extrusion printer and a kiln for sintering metal green parts, enabling advanced fabrication capabilities.  Furthermore, the lab provides 3D scanning and reverse engineering

MECH 4031 5031 AM course
The AM Lab processes student printing orders for a variety of mechanical engineering courses:
  • MECH 1025 – CAD
  • MECH 2024 – Materials Science
  • MECH 3035 – Design of Mechanical Elements
  • MECH 4035/4045 – Senior Design

If you are interested in 3D printing, our department offers a senior and graduate level MECH 4031/5031 Additive Manufacturing course in the spring semester. This class is meticulously crafted to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of AM technologies. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of topics, including:

  • AM Fundamentals: Explore the printing characteristics, process planning, and cost analysis essential for successful AM implementation.
  • Hands-On Workshops: Gain practical experience by operating state-of-the-art 3D printers, including the FFF, SLA, and metal material extrusion processes.
  • Next-Generation Design Software: Access free education licenses and tutorials for cutting-edge design tools, enabling the creation of lattice structures, topology optimization, and field-driven designs.
