12 Oct | Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): High-Priority Interest to Enhance Data Science Research Training in Addiction Research

The purpose of this Notice is to highlight NIDA’s high-priority interest in receiving applications that will support training and career development in Data Science within the overall field of drug addiction research. Grants supported under this Notice can be from individuals at formative career stages or from established investigators proposing training programs that will support early career scientists. Eligible programs range from individual training programs through larger institutional grants. Examples of programs relevant to drug use and addiction training and career development include, but are not limited to:  

• Development of computational tools and machine learning/artificial intelligence algorithms for analysis of a variety of existing data types on drug use and addiction, including research on the intersection of HIV/AIDS and substance use disorders.  
• Analysis of large datasets, including those relevant to the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders, as well as the interactions of substance use disorders and HIV/AIDS  
• Integration of different types of large datasets  
• Development of databases relevant to drug addiction research, including addiction-related HIV/AIDS research  
• Development of automated computational tools to standardize data to be archived in databases
