The Department of Energy is interested in technologies that will lessen or eliminate the oilfield water waste streams that require disposal by subsurface injection. DOE is also interested in recovery technologies that could be used to make the recovery of critical minerals or rare earth elements that may be found in certain produced water waste streams economically viable, to help offset the costs of treatment required for beneficial use. 20% cost-sharing is required.
