The CCTSI, in collaboration with Venture Partners at CU Boulder, CSU Ventures, Colorado State University and the CU Anschutz NIH funded Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hubs (REACH) program presents Ask the Expert: adVentures in Innovation.

On September 13, 2021 at noon Jo Viney, PhD will share her innovation and entrepreneurship journey in “Successful biologics innovation and startup company formation – building teams, women in leadership and the importance of diversity for success.”

Called one of the ‘Fiercest Women in Biotech’, Dr. Viney is an entrepreneurial scientist and experienced biotech executive. A self-described “drug-hunter,” she has successfully advanced a number of new therapies into the clinic.

Dr. Viney currently serves as president, chief scientific officer and co-founder of Pandion Therapeutics, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck & Co., developing novel therapeutics designed to address the unmet needs of patients living with autoimmune diseases.

Before founding Pandion, Dr. Viney previously worked at Immunex, Amgen and most recently, Biogen, where she served as senior vice president of the drug discovery organization. Throughout her career, she has been an advocate for workplace inclusiveness. From 2015-2020 she served on the Board of WEST, a non-profit organization supporting early to mid-career women and was WEST’s president for the 2017-2018 term. She has maintained a longstanding membership with the Society for Mucosal Immunology (SMI) and the American Society of Immunologists (AAI). Together with SMI colleagues and Nature Publishing Group, she launched the journal Mucosal Immunology.  

In 2019 Dr. Viney was featured in Endpoints Special Report on 20 Extraordinary Women, and in 2020 she was chosen as one of FiercePharma’s Fiercest Women in Life Sciences.

This lunchtime series is designed for researchers and academics who are interested in entrepreneurship, pharmaceutical, device and technology development and innovation. 

Each month, skillful interviewers will engage in an enlightening conversation with an expert, followed by a Q&A session.
