This talk will address the challenges associated with creating true impact for new ideas in medical technology innovation through lessons learned from my many failures – and a few successes – as a medtech and academic entrepreneur. I will also discuss the idea of diversity as a design imperative in medical device innovation.
Dr. Shandas is the Founding Chair of the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus, and a CU Distinguished Professor of Bioengineering. He is also Professor of Pediatrics, Section of Cardiology, and Professor of Surgery (courtesy) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He has founded 8 startup companies, published over 250 scientific articles, is inventor/co-inventor on over 65 patents and patent applications, and has mentored over 65 graduate students and post-doctoral trainees.
