Department operating hours and contacts
If you're a creative thinker who is passionate about STEM, driven by curiosity, and inspired to improve lives, you might be a bioengineer in the making. At CU Denver’s Department of Bioengineering—part of the College of Engineering, Design and Computing (CEDC) and uniquely co-located on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus—you’ll find a one-of-a-kind opportunity to study at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and innovation.
As the first comprehensive bioengineering/biomedical engineering program in Colorado, our students work directly with the clinicians and researchers who use the devices and therapies we develop. This hands-on environment shapes bioengineers who are not only technically skilled but also deeply connected to real-world healthcare needs.
The mission of the Bioengineering department is to improve human health through the application of engineering principles, ideas, and inventions that solve critical clinical challenges. The program’s curriculum is closely aligned with the demands of the biomedical engineering industry, thanks to strong partnerships with local companies and the Colorado Bioscience Association. Through this industry-connected education, our graduates are prepared to thrive in a growing field and make a tangible impact in the world.

I’m so grateful for the invaluable experiences I’ve had as a BS/MS bioengineering student at CU Denver/Anschutz. From hands-on lab work to engaging with STEM outreach programs like BEEP and SWE, I’ve found both a strong education and a supportive community. My advice to prospective students is to explore the niche areas that excite you—follow those opportunities, and you’ll naturally build a path filled with passion, discovery, and innovation. Engineering is challenging, but when you love what you do, the motivation and joy make it all worthwhile!
We are so thrilled and proud to acknowledge and celebrate Skylar Suarez and Alicia Tanneberger for their incredible achievements and contributions to the university!! Congratulations to both!! We are very proud of you!
