Fernando Mancilla-David, PhD

Professor of Electrical Engineering

Fernando Mancilla-David is a Full Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Colorado Denver, where he teaches and leads research in energy and power systems.

He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria, Valparaiso, Chile, in 1999, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Madison, Wisconsin, in 2002 and 2007, respectively.

Prof. Mancilla-David has held a number of academic appointments around the world. He was on sabbatical at Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy (2024–2025) and at PUC-Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2016–2017). He has also served as a summer visiting professor at: UTFSM, Valparaiso, Chile (Summer 2024); ITAM, Mexico City, Mexico (Summer 2023); PUC-Rio, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Summer 2018); ITMO University, Saint Petersburg, Russia (Summer 2016); Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Recife, Brazil (Summer 2014); Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain (Summer 2013); University of Roma Tre, Rome, Italy (Summer 2012); TU Berlin, Berlin, Germany (Summer 2011); and Supelec, Paris, France (Summers 2009 and 2010). In Summer 2008, he was a visiting scientist at ABB Corporate Research, Vasteras, Sweden.
