Assistive and Inclusive Technology applies engineering to create devices and systems that enhance independence and access for people with disabilities and those aging into disability. Solutions range from simple tools to advanced technologies like AI, robotics, and accessible medical devices, supporting physical, sensory, and cognitive needs across the lifespan. Our Center for Innovative Design and Engineering is a world leader in these areas. Our certificate in Assistive Technology is open to both degree-seeking and non-degree learners.

Core Biomedical Engineering Faculty

Research in biomaterials and tissue engineering focuses on designing materials for use in medical devices, drug delivery, and regenerative therapies, as well as developing platforms that precisely control biochemical and mechanical cues to study how cells and tissues respond to their environment. At CU Anschutz, these approaches are applied across a wide range of problems, including cardiac development and regeneration, lung disease modeling, ocular therapeutics, and the repair of bone and muscle defects.

Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Engineering applies engineering, computational, and biological approaches to understand and treat heart and lung disease. Spanning scales from cells to whole organs, this work includes tissue engineering, studies of structure and function, and predictive modeling of injury and disease. This work includes the development of custom devices using technologies like 3D printing, translating directly into solutions that improve mobility, independence, and quality of life.
