Pre-Engineering students are expected to transition into an engineering major within a defined timeframe.

Before completing 45 CU Denver credits (from the time you're admitted to Pre-Engineering), you must apply to your intended engineering major using the Change of Major form.

If you have not yet met the admission requirements by 45 credits, you may continue in Pre-Engineering for up to 15 additional CU Denver credits.

You must be admitted to an engineering major by the time you complete 60 CU Denver credits from your admission to the Pre-Engineering program.

Pre-Engineering students may request admission to an engineering major after completing the required coursework and meeting the admission requirements for their intended program. Your academic advisor will work with you to develop a plan and help determine when you're eligible to transition.

Bachelor of Science Programs

To transition into a Bachelor of Science program, students must meet one of the following requirements:

• 3.0 cumulative GPA and a grade of B- or better in Calculus I, or
• 2.75 cumulative GPA and a 2.5 GPA (based on the most recent course attempts) in:
  • Calculus I
  • Calculus II
  • Calculus-based Physics I with lab

  Students must earn a C- or better in each required course.

To transition into the Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, students must have:

• A 2.5 cumulative GPA
• Calculus I completed with a grade of C- or better

Students who do not meet the requirements for direct admission to either an engineering major or the Pre-Engineering program, but who meet CU Denver's general admission requirements, are admitted to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) as an undeclared student.

Students admitted as CLAS-Undeclared may still pursue an engineering degree by applying to pre-engineering through an Intra University Transfer Form after they have completed 12 or more CU Denver credit hours and satisfied the admissions criteria below:

• 2.5 overall GPA
• Completion of at least one of the following courses with a grade of C or better: College Algebra, College Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus I, or Calculus II

If you applied to an engineering major but did not meet the criteria for direct admission, you may be admitted to the Pre-Engineering program with an engineering major interest.

Pre-Engineering allows you to strengthen your academic preparation while receiving advising and support to help you meet the requirements for admission into your intended engineering program.

The Pre-Engineering program is designed to facilitate the successful transition of qualified students into an engineering major. Students complete core curriculum, mathematics, science, and engineering coursework while working with a dedicated academic advisor to develop an academic plan for their intended major.

Once students complete the required coursework and meet the admission requirements, they may transition into their engineering major.
