Assistant Professor in Additive Manufacturing and Design

Job description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering, Design and Computing at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position (tenured applicants will still be reviewed). Individuals with a research focus on additive manufacturing and design are highly encouraged to apply. We are looking for candidates who incorporate novel aspects of design with 3D printing. This can include (but is not limited to) topology optimization, functional lattice design, generative design, voxel-based printing, digital design, methodologies to enable mass customization, design innovation, and manufacturing practices. These techniques could be used to develop designs with novel mechanical, fluid, biological, or thermal functionality.

Candidates should plan to develop a successful research program that is funded by federal institutions and local aerospace and/or biomedical industries. CU Anschutz Medical Campus provides opportunities to collaborate with clinicians, while the Denver-metro area is home to many biomedical device and biotechnology companies. Colorado has 180 aerospace companies and more than 500 businesses that provide space-related products and services. Recently, Lockheed Martin donated an EOS m290 printer to CU Denver, which is available for the use by the future faculty member.

Job Responsibilities: Reporting to the chair, the person in this position will be expected to develop and teach lecture and laboratory courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; develop an active externally funded research program; conduct high quality research involving students at all levels, leading to sponsored research and refereed publications; advise students; and contribute to Department, College, and University governance and to the profession.

Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and have demonstrated expertise in additive manufacturing and design as evidenced by the candidate’s publication record.

Preferred Qualifications: Proposal writing experience, teaching experience, and experience working with a diverse set of people is preferred.
