Concept paper due 22 Aug | Smart Manufacturing Technologies for Material and Process Innovation

DOE

Smart manufacturing refers to the suite of platform technologies that directly support the digital transformation of the manufacturing enterprise across the entire production lifecycle, which includes design, process, production, supply network, and enterprise levels. Platform technologies are manufacturing technologies that can be applied to manufacture multiple products. This FOA applies smart manufacturing across four topic areas:

  1. Smart Manufacturing for a Circular Economy
    • Area of Interest 1: Smart Manufacturing Technologies for Improved Sorting and Characterization
    • Area of Interest 2: Interoperable and Open Supply Chains for Expanded Re-X
    • Area of Interest 3: Improved Data Transparency for Accurate Lifecycle Assessments – this area of interest does not require cost sharing for academic institutions.
  2. Smart Manufacturing of Tooling and Equipment for Sustainable Transportation
    • Area of Interest 1: Automation
    • Area of Interest 2: Manufacturing Asset Management for Improving System Performance
  3. Smart Manufacturing for High Performance Materials
    • Area of Interest 1: High-performance Materials and Process Discovery
    • Area of Interest 2: High-performance Materials Manufacturing, Assembly and Scaleup
  4. Smart Technologies for Sustainable and Competitive U.S. Mining
    • Area of Interest 1: Sustainable and Competitive Domestic Mining
    • Area of Interest 2: Sensing, Analytics, and Data-Driven Decision Making in Mining

An entity may submit only one Concept Paper and one Full Application for each topic area of this FOA. Please work with your research administrator and the limited submission committee if you are interested in submitting to this opportunity. There are no limits on participating as a subrecipient or partner.

Cost-sharing of 20% of total project costs is required.
